Richard Diaz, DNP, FNP, PMHNP-BC, is a family medicine specialist providing care to those 10 yrs and older at Arbor Mental Health & Family Medical Center LLC in San Antonio, Texas. He strives to meet or exceed every patient’s expectations for their long-term physical and mental health with conservative, holistic health care. 

Dr. Diaz joined the New York State Army National Guard in 1983. A decade later, he enrolled in the Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Albany, New York, where he graduated with honors. Shortly after graduation, he began the family nurse practitioner program at Sage Graduate School in Troy, New York. He later earned a post-master’s certificate as a family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

In his early career after nursing school, Dr. Diaz was on active duty in the army as a family nurse practitioner at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He was later a head nurse at Camp Casey, South Korea, before going on duty at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Oahu, Hawaii. He later retired as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve Nurse Corps. 

After retiring, Dr. Diaz completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice in Psychiatry program at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis, Tennessee, where he graduated with honors. He is now certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a family nurse practitioner and psychiatric nurse practitioner. 

At Arbor Mental Health & Family Medical Center LLC, Dr. Diaz provides ambulatory services and telemedicine for mental health and primary care. He specializes in medication management, personalized weight loss, and addiction treatment. 

Outside of work, Dr. Diaz enjoys traveling with his wife, Sandy, and son, Jacob. He and his family also have two labradors who join them on their adventures.
